Kingston Technology aspires harder to cater to 'Memory' markets in India

Ann Bai, DRAM Memory Sales Director, APAC Region, Kingston TechnologyThis is ironical that the contribution made by ‘memory modules’ in the overall PC/Server ecosystem gets overshadowed by other sexy components such as processors, and hard disk drives (HDDs). But, the small sized memory-modules play tactical roles without which mighty processors and hardy hard-disk-drives can do nothing in infusing lives into the digital skeletons of PCs and Servers—hey this is true for printers and host of other IT paraphernalia as well. Globally, there’re a number of IT companies which offer memory modules for PCs and Servers, addressing markets running in billions of dollars. With the growing adoption of IT across the globe, the market size of memory-modules has been seeing amazing growth rates. India, too, witnesses huge appetite for memory modules as the nation has embarked on massive absorption of PCs, Servers and imaging & printing products. Sensing the prevalent economic growth of India (8.8% GDP), many of memory module companies have intensified their operations. Taiwan’s Kingston Technology is one of such memory-module players which has started focussing intensively on the burgeoning requirements for these products. In a recent interaction with Digital Edge, Ann Bai, DRAM Memory Sales Director, APAC Region, Kingston Technology, said, “We believe there’s a big potential market for memory modules here in India—especially for PCs and Servers. We’ve started focussing with great intensity on the Indian market by deploying quality products, widespread distribution and channel networks and aggressive sales & marketing drives. We hope the present economic vibrancy of India would convince its people for getting more of sophisticated memory modules, and Kingston Technology offers the same”.
On the technology front, memory-modules are seeing rapid augmentation. In fact, the adoption rate of DDR3 memory in India has been increasing pretty fast. “We believe the DDR3 is now becoming mainstream standard memory module and I believe this would occupy more than 50 per cent of total global shipments of memory module by the end of this year. In India, DDR2 still occupies larger market share— some 70 per cent of total shipment. But, we firmly believe that DDR3 would overtake DDR2 before Q1 next year”, said Ann Bai. In the meantime, the company has launched some of smartest memory modules for PCs in India including 2333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel 2GB kit of 2 XMP overclocked memory module (KHX2333C9D3T1K2/4GX).
"We are all set to introduce 2400Mhz and 2544Mhz DDR3 memory module before end of this year. As Intel has launched new CPUs which support DDR3 memory, the sales for DDR3 memory modules have rapidly been increasing”, said she.
At the same time, the market of servers is also showing sustained growth, and the absorbption of memory modules looks faster. "In India, the potential of the server memory market is huge since the assembly servers are quite popular for small and medium company. The latest server memory module from Kingston is the low voltage ECC Register memory module which will be released in Q3 this year. It only runs at 1.35v compare with normal ECC Register memory module which runs on 1.5v. Therefore it will cost less for the power and also generate less heat to help to save the cost for the cooling as well”, said Ann Bai. This is to be noted that US-based market researcher firm, iSuppli, again put Kingston Technology as the top memory module player in its latest rakings. “First of all, thanks a lot for the support from our customers, vendors, and Kingston people. With their support, Kingston can make such achievements. We’re happy to become top notch independent memory module manufacturer in the world. Kingston will keep presenting the best-quality products and after-sales service to the market”, said Ann Bai.
