The era of variable and short-run printing has popularized the very concept of ‘Digital Press’; giving jerk to the traditional offset-printing technology. An array of companies including Xerox, Canon, HP, and Kodak has intensified their focus on digital press market. However, Canon has truly surprised the global ‘Digital Press’ market. Relatively a latecomer, Canon came out with amazing technology that impressed the
digital press market across the globe.
In the Indian context, in October 2007 itself, Canon introduced two variants of colour Digital Presses; imagePRESS C7000VP (70 PPM) and imagePRESS C6000 (60 PPM). “The response to these machines has been amazing. In fact, in the Colour Digital Press segment, we’ve got a market share of 20 per cent”, says Alok Bharadwaj, Senior Vice-President, Canon India. In the month of May 2009, Canon introduced two monochrome Digital Presses (imagePRESS 1135 and imagePRESS 1110). The Indian market has indeed been galvanized, and Canon has turned out to be one of the top options for people who desire to own Digital Presses. The imagePRESS range of Digital Presses have carved out a distinct niche in the Digital Press market here in Indian as well.
At this moment of glory, Canon has gained the prestigious ISO/CD Certification for ‘Validation Printing’ for its celebrated ‘imagePRESS’ range of machines. The new validation certification will provide customers with a competitive quality advantage, giving customers near contract quality print proofs and allowing them to measure digital prints against lithographic offset printing quality. Canon’s imagePRESS range is synonymous with quality output and the standard can now present its customers with a certified, reliable and a stable system to achieve colour critical proofing.
The ISO/CD 12647-7 Validation Printing Certification is the first to offer repeatability tests for image quality on toner systems over a period of time to ensure colour consistency is accurately maintained. This certification establishes a global image quality standard for toner-based presses. The Certification was awarded to the Canon imagePRESS range after rigorous testing. This includes the Canon imagePRESS C1+, the imagePRESS C6000 and the imagePRESS C7000VP, as well as the server and i1 Process Control colour management tool on semi-matt and gloss media. “We’re extremely proud to have obtained the ISO/CD 12647-7 Validation Printing Certification,” says Bharadwaj.
“Whilst customers appreciate the high-quality achieved from digital printing, they were still demanding a proofing standard from their print providers. The new ISO/CD 12647–7 gives us, for the first time, a recognizable ‘validation proof’ that allows print providers to achieve the highest possible results on the Canon imagePRESS range at the greatest possible efficiencies.”
The International Organization for Standardization is the world’s largest developer and publisher of the ISO International Standards, comprising a network of national institutes in 160 countries to form a bridge between public and private sectors and meet the needs of business and of society in general. Canon India has got more than 28 installations since the year 2007 and has been an active participant in the ISO 12647 summit organized by IppStar. The Monsoon Summit attracts most of the quality printers who show great interest in the standardization and certification process and the overall movement for achieving quality in printing.
