MediaTek Inc. has announced the availability of 4 new platforms-MT6252, MT6236, MT6573 and MT6276 at the Convergence India,2011. In its 19th year, Convergence India is the region’s largest and most established ICT event. Building on the proven track record of delivering innovative, feature-rich yet cost-effective solutions that meet consumer’s entertainment, communication and information needs, MediaTek has launched these new platforms to tap the fast growing market segment of people demanding phones from entry level to smart phones with high end features at affordable price points. The MT6252 chipset is a highly integrated low cost SoC solution. This chipset supports high quality video playback up to a resolution of QVGA. The USP of this solution is that it can support up to 4 SIM cards. MT6236 is an Edge enabled advance multimedia feature rich solution. It offers key features such as support for 5Mpixel camera, HVGA display, integrated Bluetooth and full HTML browser. MT6236 platform is pre-integrated with MediaTek's highly proven software solution thus considerably reducing the design cycle time. The MT6573 platform is a highly-integrated chipset and supports HSPA advance 3G technology. It has the latest version of the popular Android operating system. The chipset can support a full range of connectivity solutions for Bluetooth, WiFi, FM radio and GPS functions. The integrated 3D graphics capability of this chipset brings gaming and user interface capabilities that were previously available only to high-end smartphones. The processor used is ARM11, which supports 30 fps video playback and up to an 8 MP camera and a touch screen phone. MT6276 is a multimedia HSPA dual SIM solution. With finger touch optimisation, it supports 8Mp camera and its main USP is Wifi Teethering which will allow the handset to become the Wifi hotspot. It supports other features like Bluetooth, FM and GPS functions.
India has emerged as a very attractive destination for major handset manufacturers. According to Gartner, India is projected to have the most rapid growth of mobile users worldwide. Currently, 660 million mobile users in India by end of 2010. This number is expected to cross the one billion mark by 2014 according to global consultancy firm PwC.
