Trend Micro’s TippingPoint turns Leader in Gartner MQ

By Digital Edge Bureau, 24.01.2017, 11:40

Trend Micro’s TippingPoint turns into a Leader in Gartner’s 2016 Magic Quadrant for intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDPS) domain

It looks TippingPoint, the leading NGIPS entity, gets a caring and sensible guardianship of Trend Micro ever since HP Enterprise has sold it, in March 2016, to the leading security technology firm (Trend Micro). For Trend Micro, it was a paradigm shift as the pure play security software vendor ventured into the ‘network security’ space of next generation intrusion prevention systems (NGIPS). It appears abundantly that the new owner of TippingPoing has continued with the task of innovating and sustaining its overall quality and reputation for being a top echelon NGIPS brand. This has precisely been corroborated by Gartner when it positions TippingPoint as a Leader in its latest Magic Quadrant for intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDPS). Some of other leading players in the IDPS space are Cisco (SourceFire), IBM, Huawei, and Extreme Networks. By the way, Garter calls IPS (intrusion prevention systems) as IDPS (Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems).
“Our acquisition of TippingPoint was designed to strategically advance the capabilities of our solutions to meet the needs of our customers faced with the growing complexity of protecting their enterprise networks,” said Kevin Simzer, Executive Vice President, Sales, Marketing & Business Development for Trend Micro. “We believe that being named a Leader in the Magic Quadrant reflects the hard work we’ve done and our commitment and long-term vision for comprehensive network security”, added Simzer.
Don Closser, Vice President & General Manager, Trend Micro TippingPoint, viewd, “We’re committed to staying on the forefront of attack trends and anticipating our customers’ evolving network security requirements. Our teams came together over the past year to fully integrate Trend Micro deep discovery and advanced threat protection with TippingPoint Next-Generation IPS. I believe this successful combination strengthened our overall product offering to solidify our Leader placement in this year’s Magic Quadrant”.
The TippingPoint NGIPS offers in-line comprehensive threat protection against advanced and evasive targeted attacks across data centers and distributed enterprise networks. It offers in-depth analysis of network traffic for comprehensive contextual awareness, visibility and agility necessary to keep pace with today’s dynamic threat landscape. Powered by security intelligence from TippingPoint Digital Vaccine Labs (DVLabs) and the Zero Day Initiative vulnerability bounty program, the TippingPoint NGIPS provides accurate, preemptive threat prevention in real-time without affecting network performance.
